Top 10: Couple Costumes

It seems as soon you pair off and Halloween hits everyone expects you to dress in a couples costume. This can be fun, but it can also be extremely painful if you’re not on the same page. In the end it should be about the fun and obviously about blowing the socks off of everyone else at the party you’re attending. Here are a few great ideas for couples costumes, whether you’re looking for complicated or simple there is bound to be something that will spark your imaginations. If you have other ideas share them in the comments or tell us on Facebook at Acts of Geek – remember we love pictures!

Costume_Superman LoisLois & Clark -We’re talking classic DC Comics here, none of this New 52 junk. At the core of Superman’s humanity is the one person who makes him a better man and that person is Lois Lane. A simple costume for most couples, it involves some professional business attire for Lois and a Superman t-shirt under a white dress shirt with some glasses for Clark. Don’t forget the lanyards with your “Press Pass” photo ID. It might be hard to find one, but there is always time for a little phone booth fun!

Costume_Mary Poppins BurtMary Poppins & Burt – It’s time for a Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious time when you’re spending a lovely day with Mary – Poppins that is! A black A-line skirt with a primly pressed white blouse and red bowtie and waist sash. Don’t forget her famous umbrella (you can find it at the Disney Store). Burt is dressed in black pants, a waist coat, suspenders and topped off with a cap. Brush a little black matte eye shadow on Burt’s face for coal dust and you’re ready to sweep the night away.

Costume_Indiana HenryIndiana Jones and Henry Jones Sr. – They may have called the dog Indiana, but in this costume they’ll be whipping out the compliments. Yes, I know they’re Father and Son, but think of how many couples went as Cersei and Jaime Lannister from Game of Thrones. Grab your brown fedora and leather jacket to dress up your brown pants and khaki shirt and all that is left is that famous whip. Henry Jones Sr. is dapper in his tweed suit and bow-tie (looks like we have a theme going here). Don’t forget his matching tweed Trilby and his trusty black umbrella.

Costume_Link ZeldaLink and Princess Zelda – Time to get your video game on! More elaborate than our previous entries, our hero Link and his beautiful damsel Princess Zelda will be the talk of the party any Halloween. It’s time to raid your LARPing gear for some chain-mail, a green tunic and leggings. You’ll need your trusty sword and shield which can be made out of foam. A wig, big elf ears (we’re not poking fun) and a matching green cap and you’re ready to enter the dungeon. The lovely Zelda has a closet full of costumes from her different incarnations in the game series. Select your favorite. For this one she dons a long white gown skirt with a purple/pink bodice. Using foam you can create her armored adornments and you’ll need another pair of those lovely ears. If you don’t have long hair, a wig with two front sections wrapped in white ribbon is a simple detail which will go a long way.

Costume_Poison Ivy Harley QuinnPoison Ivy / Harley Quinn – Girls just want to have fun and with these two how can you go wrong? Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, two of the villainous sirens of the DC Universe are perfect for a little Halloween trick or treating. Ivy is dressed in a green corset with green tights and matching elbow length gloves. It’s easy to swap out the corset for a green dress. Embellish either with green leaves purchased at your local craft store. Then its time for your red flowing wig and dramatic eye make-up. Red poisonous lips are a must. Ivy’s partner in crime Harley is dressed in her classic red and black clown jumpsuit, but there are other options such as her look from Batman: Arkham City and Batman Arkham Asylum to choose from. Whichever you select white face paint and dark eyes or a mask are in your future. Accessorize your outfit with her giant hammer, baseball bat or her bang-bang gun. Just remember to look good in your mugshot!

Costume_Michonne DeadMichonne and Dead Pet – It can’t be Halloween without The Walking Dead. There are so many options for couples here, but we thought the best is Michonne and one of her Dead Pets. Clothing wise Michonne’s costume is fairly basic. A pair of dark navy pants, a brown belt, tank top and vest or you could add her signature poncho. You’ll need a pair of finger-less brown gloves, a scarf with an aztec pattern and her weapon of choice a 30″ ninja sword. Most costume stores will carry a dreadlock  wig to complete your look. Then there is your pet! Your dead partner will need to pull his arm back behind his back (especially for photographs) and dress in ragged jeans. Shirtless is optional, but lets be honest it makes the look – so do it. Since you’re not going to cut off anyones jaw smear red fake blood across the bottom of face and on the chest. Add a long fake chain to a collar and you’re ready to walk among the dead.

Costume_DoctorsThe Doctors (# 10 & 11) – Oh the places you’ll go! Who could be a more perfect date for the evening than yourself? You can fight over which Doctor you’ll be, but either way you win. For The 10th Doctor you’ll have to choose between your brown suit or your blue suit – is it into the future or into the past for the evening? The key to this outfit is the hair and the shoes. You have to have good hair! Grab your “Sand Shoes” (Chuck All Stars) and dance your way across the universe. Your handsome other half will be dawning a bowtie (there it is again), suspenders,  tweed jacket and tight pants (yes he wore tight pants) cuffed at the bottom with boots. You can add a Fez – Fez are cool!

Costume_Black Widow HawkeyeBlack Widow and Hawkeye – You’ll always have Budapest! Draw your inspiration from the Marvel cinematic universe or the comic universe either way you’re going to look amazing. Its all about black leather and ass kicking with this couple. Want to break up all the black look? Add Black Widows comic-book gold circle belt. A short red bob cut or a long flowing red hair will work for this Russian S.H.E.I.L.D. operative. For a nice detail add the golden arrow necklace like the one Scarlet Johansson wore in The Avengers. Hope you’ve been working your arms Hawkeye, because that vest will show off all your work. You can actually purchase a Hawkeye leather vest on Amazon for a price, but a basic ranger vest could work with some S.H.E.I.L.D. patches. Match this with black pants, add black knee pads and wear with black work boots. Visit your local Army Navy store for some leg holsters and to keep all that good spy stuff you need. A black back quiver, an archery armguard, black glasses and a recurve bow round out your look. After the party you can grab some shawarma!

Costume_Buttercup Dread Pirate RobertsButtercup and Dread Pirate Roberts – You’re going to a party not entering the Fire Swamp, but you want to be prepared. The Dread Pirate Roberts is dressed in all black, which makes things somewhat simple. Take those black elastic waist pants you where around the house and pair them with black your black boots dressed with black vinyl boot covers. You’ll need that black pirate shirt that laces up the front which you wore to the Renaissance fair and Rapier Sword and holster you had to have. A black sash for your waist, a black wrap for your head and mask and you’re ready to even wage war against a Sicilian. Buttercup is dressed in a long sleeve red gown with a gold belt which hangs off to the side. The key to Buttercup is her long blonde hair which can be easily mimicked with a wig. Remember to look adoringly into each others eyes all night and at that key moment remember the magic words – “As you wish!”.

Costume_paper manPaperman and Papergirl – A simple and cute costume that can be done at the last minute and is still super clever. From the Walt Disney Animation Studios short film Paperman this costume is all about the accessories. You’ll need a bunch of white paper and some mad paper airplane folding skills – oh and a tube of red lipstick. Paperman wears a simple suit which the paper airplanes are pinned to using safety pins. For Papergirl a basic pencil skirt with a suit jacket with a simple cami underneath. Her hair she should be neatly kept and her lips should match the same red lipstick on her paper airplane which is attached to a manila folder. Don’t let all this romance sweep you too far away.
